This year in the US, it’s estimated that 300,000 women will receive a new breast cancer diagnosis and over 40,000 women will die of breast cancer. Internationally, deaths will number over 450,000.
But the news isn’t all bad. Since 1989, the number of deaths from breast cancer has been decreasing every year, and that’s because of improved research, awareness and early detection. Statistics like this are how we know that Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a valuable tool in winning the fight against breast cancer. Every penny that goes towards research and education is saving lives.
I’m a breast cancer survivor and I’m committed to helping other women win this fight. My daughter Dominique and I will be contributing to the cause and I hope you will too.
Look below for details on some of the many ways you can support breast cancer research and awareness. Your time or money can help save lives. With 1 in 8 women receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in their lives, your help is certain to make a difference in the life of someone you care about.
I'll be adding on to this list as more events come up, so please check back and email me any events you hear about at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Making Strides of Parsippany

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities with a shared determination to finish the fight. By signing up, fundraising, and participating in one of our noncompetitive, three- to five-mile walks, you will help us be there for everyone in every community touched by breast cancer. You will help those who are currently dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education and prevention.
Our local Rockaway Townsquare Mall has partnered with Susan G. Komen Foundation for an October full of fundraising events - many of which will save you money at shops within the mall in exchange for your donation.
Liberty Village Premium Outlets is teaming with Susan G. Komen® to support breast cancer awareness, outreach, research, and treatment programs in its local community.
Now through Oct. 31, shoppers can visit the on-site Information Center to donate $10 to benefit Komen and then enjoy a day of shopping at the Premium Outlets® Pink Event. For each donation of $10 or more, shoppers will receive a special savings card filled with "25% off one single item" offers from Brooks Brothers, Le Creuset, Michael Kors, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger and more.
